Hi Bill

Unless Elliott is good to go in couple of days you would think they’d almost have to make a deal to bring in a goalie, no?

Also, can you explain what the coaching staff is seeing in Weise to keep him in the lineup over Leier? I just don’t get it.

Kind of. I just loathe the majority of Ranger fans on this site.

Injury aside, they way Elloit played last night has me leaning towards the signing of a goalie.

I hate to do it just for the sake of making the playoffs but I sure understand if they should.

It'd be fantastic to get 2 pts, but even a point will be a major victory. Vegas is so good at home and we're coming in on a back to back with a lot of travel. That's a tall order imo. Neuvy will have to play a great game for us to get it done imo.

Over the course of the year, I think he's been solid. I can't for the life of me see us giving up any assets for a tender. Elliott can get it done for us.

You know he got injured last night, right?

If he's going to be out a while they absolutely need to get someone. Neuvy is injury prone and Lyon is not a NHL caliber option.

Interesting thing to consider, aside from lets say who the goalie will be for the rest of this season...

Is the club going to head into next year with a Elliot/Neuvirth tandem again? Is Neuvy's time in Philadelphia coming to an end?

For what its worth, just have a feeling Neuvirth goes on a bit of a tear here. Then gets hurt as per norm, but he's shown the ability to be damn good for stretches.

Hopefully that's true. Still, they need someone capable on the bench. Lyon was just awful when he was up. I'm actually more concerned about that than I am Neuvirth tbh.

If they run with Lyon as the backup and Neuvy goes down Hextall will be over a barrel trying to land anyone.

most likely, the "tear" Neuvirth is going on will be in the stomach or groin area.

I follow the team closely, so yes I do know he got injured.

You think hextall is going to give up and asset to upgrade goaltending for a playoff run this year? Can't see it. Lyon has struggled but they go with neuvy I'd say. He did pretty well last night I'd say.

Regardless, hextall isn't a short term kind of gm.

I'm in no way saying they'll burn a 1st on a goalie. Or even a 2nd. But the situation will paint Hextall into a corner if Elliott is out long term. You can't count on Neuvirth to stay healthy and Lyon isn't ready. What is your plan if Elliott is out long term and Neuvirth(an injury prone player) gets hurt after the trade deadline?

Hope you're right. But even if he doesn't we won't be sending a 2nd rounder for Lehner. I think that's just madness. For what? To get into the playoffs and maybe win a round. It's not consistent with hextalls plan imo

It's starting to look like we're maybe ahead of sched which is great, but I can't see us beating Pitt Tampa or Boston in the east let alone winning the cup.

I could see Hextall moving a mid to late round draft pick for a goalie if Elliott's injury were more than a day to day thing.

I'd honestly give tokarski a look. Yes. We very well might drop out of the playoffs, if neuvy were to go down but this isn't the year we go for it imo. If neuvy proves to be unreliable, you might make a change in the offseason if you can.

Maybe. Say a 4th and a mid level prospect. Prob is, the sellers are asking the moon for everything. Hexy is not gonna over pay for a short term fix.

I doubt that they'd have to overpay by much. First off, you arent going to be getting a Vezina caliber goalie. You'll be getting Ondrej Pavelec or a reasonable facsimile thereof, and that won't cost you more than a mid round pick.

For discussion, what is the plan at goalie? To wait for Hart until 2020. We all hope Sandstrom and/or Hart pan out, but both are question marks at this point. I agree with you, they are ahead of schedule at forward with the development of Coots and Konency and lucking into Patrick.

I think Hextall knows he only had 2 goalies in the organization right now capable of playing at the NHL over the next 2 seasons and both are not capable of playing 50 ganes. With his patient approach, I dont think Im wrong. So is he willing to waste 2 years of Voracek and G to stick to the plan and find out if his goalies pan out. I just dont see it. Just my opinion.
